The Book of Proverbs tells us that “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge” (1:7). The American Founders understood this and from the beginning stressed the connection between a Godly education and the personal freedoms of the country.
In 1776, the future President John Adams said, “Statesman…may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality, which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand.”
This view was widely embraced among the Founders who helped shape the political, educational, and legal foundations of the nation. Men such as Daniel Webster, Benjamin Franklin, Benjamin Rush, Samuel Adams, and George Washington echoed the same sentiments. They saw the proper education of young minds as being at the heart of maintaining what was started.
As a result, most of America’s oldest universities were formed by preachers and churches. Harvard, William and Mary, Yale, Princeton, King’s College, Brown, Rutgers, and Dartmouth are examples.
Harvard University was founded by Puritans in 1636. It adopted ‘Rules and Precepts’ that said, “Let every student be plainly instructed and earnestly pressed to consider well, the main end of his life and studies is, to know God and Jesus Christ which is eternal life (John 17:3) and therefore lay Christ at the bottom, as the only foundation of all sound knowledge and learning.”
Even Harvard’s original seal, which can be seen etched in the walls of the campus states “Truth for Christ and the Church.” The other colleges noted above have similar professions of faith in their original statements of purpose. A founding creed of Princeton was “Cursed is all learning that is contrary to the Cross of Christ.”
Tragically, none of these universities have preserved their original mission and profession of faith. In fact, they deny and mock Jesus today.
In Colonial America long before the government forced children to attend socialist schools, in addition to the Bible and the Bay Psalm Book, the first textbook, The New England Primer, taught the ABC’s by children memorizing Bible truths and life lessons: A—In Adams fall, we sinned all. B--- Heaven to find, the Bible mind. C---Christ crucified for sinners died, and so on. Included in the Primer were the names of Old and New Testament books, the Lord’s Prayer, the Apostle’s Creed, the Ten Commandments and more.
The Primer was the second best-selling book in the American colonies (The Bible was number one).
In 1836, Noah Webster, often called the “Father of American Education,” expressed that the purpose of schools was meant for the advancement of the Christian faith. Webster said, “The Christian religion is the most important and one of the first things in which all children, under a free government ought to be instructed ….No truth is more evident to my mind than the Christian religion must be the basis of any government intended to secure the rights and privileges of a free people.”
Tragically, America grew cold to God, rejecting Him as creator to instead embrace man’s evolution from a monkey. John Dewey, known as the “Architect of Modern Education,” was an atheist and secular humanist. He said, “There is no God and there is no soul. Hence there are no needs for the props of traditional religion.”
This unraveling of the tapestry of American morality and ethics based on the scriptures led to rampant teen pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, substance abuse, violence and suicide. Greed, selfishness, sexual perversion, political corruption and deceit are unchecked today. Schools are Jesus – free zones. Many American corporate executives and liberal politicians are traitors preferring global rule to being loyal Americans.
It is no surprise that the nation is ripe for a socialist / communist coup. The majority of Americans are confused about their beginnings. Most local and extra-local leaders that swore an oath to defend the Constitution, do not understand it and are oath-breakers.
The flu fraud and taking the nation hostage could only happen if most of our leadership had no intention or backbone to defend the Constitution. It’s just not cool. Our third President and Founding Father Thomas Jefferson wrote, “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure.”
It appears to be that season.
